The Cairo mosque of al-Aqsunqur is also known as the Blue Mosque because of its decoration of blue tiles from Persia. The open courtyard is surrounded by four arcades with vaulted arches resting on octagonal pillars. It has fallen into disrepair and is currently being restored.
